CUSTOM-MADE HIP DISARTICULATION PROSTHESIS

Full lower-limb prosthesis designed after an amputation at hip level

The custom-made hip disarticulation prosthesis is intended for people who have undergone an amputation through the hip joint.

It is designed to support standing and everyday movement. It may also assist with a gradual return to walking. However, the solution depends on each person’s abilities, needs and goals.

Hip disarticulation is an amputation performed through the hip joint. In this situation, the femur is no longer present, so a standard transfemoral prosthesis cannot be used.

The prosthesis therefore replaces the entire lower limb. It may include a socket fitted around the pelvis, a prosthetic hip joint, a prosthetic knee joint and a prosthetic foot.

Each prosthesis is custom-made according to the user’s body shape. The orthopaedic team also considers mobility, balance and daily activities.

The different components are then selected according to the person’s needs. The choice depends on the required stability, living environment and mobility goals.

Using this type of prosthesis generally requires specific rehabilitation. Appropriate support helps the user improve balance, posture and walking technique.

At OrthoGreen Mobility, an orthopaedic centre and bandagist in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Brussels, we support you at every stage. Our team provides design, fitting, adjustment and follow-up services.
